POSH PLAYER VERDICTS: Ben Alnwick very good, the rest very poor

Peterborough United delivered the worst all-round team performance under the management of Graham Westley as they went down 1-0 at home to Burton in League One tonight (January 26).

Only goalkeeper Ben Alnwick emerged with any credit.

Ben Alnwick: The one man who can be pleased with his efforts. A terrific save from a corner late in the first half kept Posh in touch. Two other decent saves before the break as well 8

Michael Smith: A display full of wayward passing, poor crosses, bad decisions. Not required to do a lot of defending 4

Harry Toffolo: Caught in possession for the goal, Didn’t exactly hurry to get back. Didn’t defend well and then suffered a horrible-looking concussion which forced him off the field 4

Ricardo Santos: A catalogue of defensive blunders and passing errors. His confidence looks shot, could do with a break in my opinion 4

Jack Baldwin: Even his composure cracked amid a dreadful team performance. Kept passing the ball away, kept getting caught in possession. Never looked secure defensively 5

Chris Forrester: Played to the right of the midfield diamond and it didn’t work, He passed the ball as poorly as he ever has for Posh. Tried to force too many issues. Looks shattered, substituted 4

Harry Beautyman: He was employed at the base of the diamond and he battled away gamely, but his use of the ball was also erratic 5

Erhun Oztumer: Ran around a lot, but couldn’t get into the game. One sublime pass gave Maddison the best Posh chance of the game. Disappeared second-half, like most of his team-mates 4

Jon Taylor: Ran into too many cul-de-sacs. Could never break free from a well-organised defensive unit. Substituted 4

Shaquile Coulthirst: One impressive burst of pace in the first-half was his sole highlight. Tried hard, but the service to him was poor and the Burton back four was strong 4

Marcus Maddison: Started in a very advanced position to little effect although he did deliver the one dangerous Posh shot of the first half. Went to left-back and delivered some accurate crosses, but he looked angry and disillusioned at times 5
