Forrester became the eighth Posh player to be dismissed this season when seeing red in the first half of a 1-0 defeat at Oakwell on Tuesday.

Westley didn’t condone his player’s part in a spat with Hourihane, but he was appalled to see the home player stay on the field.

“I won’t excuse what Chris did,” Westley stated. “But when I see my player walking down the tunnel and their player staying on the pitch I get frustrated at the lack of consistency.

“Their player was cautioned for feigning an injury, but then followed up by stamping on Chris for which he wasn’t punished.

“It was a despicable act which has no place in the game.”

Westley was also sent to the stands by referee Michael Bull in the final moments of the game for comments overheard by the fourth official.

Posh are next in League One action at home to Scunthorpe on Saturday (April 23) when Forrester will serve a one-match ban.
