Posh’s League One games at Gillingham today (Boxing Day) and at home to Charlton (December 29) were postponed along with the home game against Ipswich (December 19) because of a Covid outbreak in the camp.
But Posh fans approach the holiday games with trepidation every year anyway, and no wonder.
In the last seven seasons, since relegation from the Championship, Posh have played 20 matches over the Christmas and New Year period and won just four of them. They’ve lost 11 and drawn five.
They are due to return to League One action at home to in-form Doncaster on Saturday, January 2.

2017-18: v Bradford City (away. won 3-1) v MK Dons (away. lost 0-1), v Doncaster (home, drew 1-1). A fine Boxing Day win at promotion-rivals Bradford was followed by a horror show at MK Dons who were down to 10 men after eight minutes and nine men after 34 minutes and yet held onto their lead in a 55-minute second-half very comfortably as Posh manager Grant McCann delivered the opposite to a tactical masterclass. Even Darren Ferguson delivered some misery to Posh in the next game as his Doncaster side found a 94th-minute equaliser to cancel out Danny Lloyd's early. 2016-17: v Gillingham (home, drew 1-1), v Coventry (home, drew 1-1), v Scunthorpe (away, drew 1-1). Lee Angol's superb finish gave Posh a late lead at home to Gillingham on Boxing Day, but the visitors equalised in the 94th minute. Micheal Bostwick equalised for Posh in injury time against Coventry and then an own goal from Charlie Goode seven minutes from time gave Posh an unlikely point at Scunthorpe. 2015-16: v Chesterfield (home, won 2-0), Walsall (away, lost 0-2), Sheffield United (away won, 3-2). The one positive Christmas of the past seven years with Maddison playing as a left-back in the games against Chesterfield and Walsall. On-loan midfielder Martin Samuelsen scored a brilliant winning goal at Bramall Lane after Posh had led earlier in the game through strikes from Conor Washington and Erhun Oztumer.
