Why Peterborough United failed to reunite the Lisbie twins, plus eyes remain on Burrows and Fernandez
Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony has revealed why he had to abandon plans to sign winger Kyreece Lisbie from Colchester United.
Posh spent six months trying to sign the 22 year-old winger and reunite him with twin brother Kyrell Lisbie, who they had signed last summer.

But, although Posh agreed a fee with Colchester, wage expectations proved too big a stumbling block and Kyreece Lisbie ended up signing for League One rivals Reading.
"I agreed a fee with Colchester in January, but we couldn’t get the deal done then,” MacAnthony said while speaking to popular podcast UpThePoshCast at the family funday event at London Road over the weekend.
"I walked away from the deal in May when it became clear the wages would be an issue for us. If I had signed Kyreece I might not have been able to sign three other players we needed.
"My dream had been to get the twins into the same side and then sell them on for £15 million.”
Finances continue to be an issue for Posh, but they could be eased if former captain Harrison Burrows completes a move to Championship title favourites West Ham United from Sheffield United this summer.
That move appears to be getting closer according to National newspaper reports this week suggesting ‘The Hammers’ are preparing an offer for the 24 year-old.
The PT reported this potential move last month. Posh would receive a decent sell-on payment on any profit over the £4 million paid by United for Burrows.
Posh will also be keeping an eye on the constant speculation regarding their ex-central defender Emmanuel Fernandez.
Turkish giants Galatasaray are the the latest overseas club to show an interest in Fernandez. German club Bayer Leverkusen and French side Rennes have also been linked with the 6ft 7in defender whose latest transfer value has now been reported as £17 million.
Posh have a healthy sell-on fee should Fernandez make the move from Scottish side Rangers who paid £3.5 million for the player in July, 2025.
Former Posh full-back Liam Shephard could play European football on Friday after leaving Newport County for Welsh League side Penybont who have qualified for the 2026-27 UEFA Conference League.
Penybont have a qualifying fixtures against Andorran side FC Santa Coloma at home tomorrow (July 9) and away (July 16).
