Why an Exeter City player believes his side should be 'licking their lips' in anticipation of facing Peterborough United

Experienced Exeter City defender Pierce Sweeney says his side should be ‘licking their lips’ in anticipation of facing Peterborough United.

Posh are likely to field another makeshift defence at the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday. They fielded three right-backs in the back four in the 2-1 defeat at Barnsley on Tuesday night and that could well be case again tomorrow.

Sweeney accepted Posh will still be a tough nut to crack and that have some serious talent going forward, but he’s obviously taken notice of the 66 shots on goal Posh have faced in their last three games, all of them away.

Sweeney told his club’s website: "They score goals, there's no doubt about. They've got some talent at the top end of the pitch, but they also concede chances. They've conceded an awful lot of goals and an awful lot of shots on goal, so it's got to be something we're licking our lips about.

"They will be a tough nut to crack but the lads are in a really good place.”

Dan Green continue to act as interim manager at Exeter following the departure of Gary Caldwell to Wigan Athletic. Green’s first game in charge was Tuesday night’s 1-1 home draw with Wycombe Wanderers.

His current assistant Kevin Nicholson was on pre-match media duties ahead of the match at Posh. Nicholson said: “They have got some really good players and a manager who is a good tactician and a really good person from what I can gather. The players seem to play for him and it was a fresh start for them that they seem to have grasped and moved on.

"They've got players like Archie Collins who we know well who will run a game for them. They have threats out wide and pace and power and they are strong when they don't have the ball."
