But not all kick on to have particularly good careers which is a warning to those who were handed surpise opportunities in the Championship last season.
Here are the 20 youngest Posh players to represent the club at second tier level in the Football League. The list includes five who made their Championship debut last season.
5. 16th JOE TAYLOR
Championship debut v Bournemouth, March 8, 2022, aged 19 years 110 days. Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony apparently championed the signing of this fleet-footed striker from King's Lynn Town, but few would have envisaged him making four substitute appearances last season. One for the future and he was prolific for the under 23s last term. Photo: David Lowndes
6. 15th DANNY ROSE
Championship debut v Plymouth Argyle, September 29, 2009 aged 19 years and 89 days. Few would have predicted this lef-back would go on to play close to 200 Premier League games and represent England 29 times given an awful six-game spell at Posh on loan from Spurs. Photo: Alan Storer
7. 14th RICKY-JADE JONES
Championship debut v Coventry City January 15, 2022 aged 19 years and 68 days. A speedy striker who has been at Posh for over a decade and more than held his own at Championship level. Photo: Joe Dent
8. 13th SAIDO BERAHINO
Championship debut v Barnsley, October 2, 2012 aged 19 years and 89 days. The striker was looking like a decent loan signing from West Brom when injury cut short his stay at London Road after 9 appearances and 2 goals. Lost his way a bit, but after a spell in Belgian football, he enjoyed a strong finish to last season with Sheffield Wednesday. Photo: Alan Storer
