There will not be a Peterborough United spending spree in January

There will not be a Peterborough United spending spree in the January transfer window.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony is open to making a couple of additions to the squad, but he’s just as interested in players leaving London Road.

The squad is bloated in certain areas and the chairman is mindful of keeping on the right side of EFL laws regarding player-related spending.

MacAnthony is however keen for his new management team of Luke Williams and Ryan Harley to keep a close eye on the impressive form of forward Chris Conn-Clarke who is currently on loan at National League side Carlisle United.

Conn-Clarke claimed a goal and an assist in table-topping Carlisle’s 2-1 win at Southend United last weekend.

MacAnthony, speaking on his ‘Hard Truth’ podcast, said: “The management team are aware of Chris, but when we get a quiet period it might be worth them getting in a car and popping up to Carlisle to have a close look at him.

"We do need to get players out though. We have five goalkeepers at the club for a start.

“As for getting players in, one or two might be do-able in January, but there won't be any more.

"I don’t know of any team winning promotion after signing seven or eight players in January as it’s just too disruptive.”

Posh goalkeepers Nick Bilokapic and Will Blackmore have been on the transfer list since the summer.

First-choice Alex Bass, on-loan Norwich City goalkeeper Vicente Reyes and Bastian Smith are the other goalkeepers currently on the Posh books.

Posh boss Luke Williams ruled out a move for Millwall striker Macaulay Langstaff last week.
