But chairman Darragh MacAnthony insists Marriott will only depart for the right price.

And if he does leave London Road he will be replaced.

The January transfer window closes on Tuesday (January 31, 11pm).

"There are several clubs interested in Jack,” MacAnthony stated on the latest edition of the ‘Hard Truth’ podcast. “But they all want him on loan and that doesn’t interest me.

"If they make bids they’ll be considered and if Jack does go he will be replaced.

"We have contingency plans should any of our assets be sold. That’s just sensible planning, but as things stand we are not anticipating a great deal of activity before the window closes.

"There could be a bit movement, but we don’t like to do deals in January. Having said that we will react if we have to.”

Previous Posh boss Grant McCann had agreed to let Marriott leave because of a lack of first-team starts for the 28 year-old.

But new manager Darren Ferguson is happy for him to stay as long as he fights for his place.

It’s known Ferguson has been happy with the way the former League One Golden Boot winner has trained in recent weeks, although he was an unsued substitute in the new manager’s only game in charge, a 2-0 win at Port Vale.

Marriott has started just nine of 25 League One games this season, scoring four times, although he has not netted since the early moments of the September 3 defeat at Portsmouth.
