For every roaring success like George Boyd (£250k from Stevenage in 2007) there are a handful of flops like Tom Nichols (£300k from Exeter, 2016) and Adil Nabi (free from West Brom, 2016).
Here are the players Posh have signed on loan or permanently in January over the last 6 years and where they are now.
Posh didn’t sign a single player in January in the League One promotion season of 2020-21.
21. DOMINIC BALL
MISS! Signed on loan from Rotherham, 2017. A centre-back who struggled to break into the Posh team and reportedly fell out with the manager beforer leaving. Appearances 6, goals 1. Now at League One promotion fancies Ipswich Town. Photo: Peterborough United Football Clu
22. TOM NICHOLS
MISS! Signed from Exeter for a reported £300k in 2016. A striker who scored on his Posh debut, but the rumour that manager Graham Westley never wanted to sign him never went away. He did score a goal in a win over Cobblers though so it wasn't all bad. Appearances 58, goals 14. Now at League Two side Crawley Town. Photo: Joe Dent
23. AARON WILLIAMS
MISS! Signed from Nuneaton for an undisclosed fee, 2016. One of manager Westley's many weird signings. A forward who was way below the required standard. Appearances 10, goals 2. Now at Welsh Premier League club Newtown FC. Photo: Joe Dent
24. ADIL NABI
MISS! Signed on a free transfer from West Brom, 2016. More proof that Westley lost the plot. A midfielder with no obvious pedigree or quality. He struck the bar with a 30 yarder on his debut, but it quickly went downhill after that. Appearances 10, goals 0. Last heard of at Greek club Atromitos FC. Photo: Joe Dent
