The bookmakers have already written Peterborough United off as promotion challengers next season

Peterborough United have already been written off as League One no hopers next season.

The promotion of Posh manager Luke Williams' old club Notts County from League Two on Monday led to bookmakers offering title and promotion odds for all 24 clubs taking part in the third tier in the 2026-27 season.

Predictably, relegated Championship clubs Leicester City (5/2) and Sheffield Wednesday (7/1) are the early favourites to finish top with Paddy Power, but Posh are 40/1 and only five teams are ranked as bigger outsiders. You can even get 50/1 on Posh winning the title with Bet365.

Even promoted League Two clubs MK Dons and Notts County are shorter odds to win the title than Posh. League Two champions Bromley are the rank outsiders at 150/1.

Posh shouldn’t worry too much though. Before a competitive ball had been kicked last season Paddy Power were offering 28/1 on Posh winning the title, the same odds they were offering on Lincoln City who did finish top!

Posh have finished 18th in the last two League One seasons. They finished four points above the drop zone last season and five points clear of the bottom four the year before.

Title odds (Paddy Power): 5/2 Leicester City; 7/1 Sheffield Wednesday; 9/1 Luton Town; 12/1 Huddersfield Town, Oxford United, Plymouth Argyle, Stockport County; 14/1 Bradford City; 16/1 MK Dons; 18/1 Blackpool, Wycombe Wanderers; 28/1 Barnsley, Reading, Wigan Athletic; 33 Doncaster Rovers, Mansfield Town, Notts County, Stevenage; 40/1 POSH; 66/1 Burton Albion, Cambridge United, Leyton Orient; 100/1 AFC Wimbledon; 150/1 Bromley.

Sky Bet also offer Posh at 40/1 to win the title, but they go 12/1 on a promotion-winning campaign compared to the 9/1 on offer to go up at Paddy Power.

Leicester City are odds on to go up with Sky Bet.

Promotion odds (Sky Bet): 8/11 Leicester City; 9/4 Sheffield Wednesday; 3/1 Luton Town; 4/1 Stockport County; 9/2 Barnsley, Huddersfield Town, Oxford United, Plymouth Argyle; 5/1 Bradford City; 11-2 MK Dons; 6/1 Blackpool, Wycombe Wanderers; 9/1 Reading, Wigan Athletic; 10/1 Doncaster Rovers, Mansfield Town, Notts County, Stevenage; 12/1 POSH; 14/1 Burton Albion, Cambridge United, Leyton Orient; 18/1 AFC Wimbledon; 28/1 Bromley.
