We’ve worked out the top 25 based on profit from transfers, longevity and how much Posh success they enjoyed.
Some big names have missed out altogether. No current players were considered, apart from one who was a roaring succes first time around.
Let us know what you think. Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony and co-owner Dr Jason Neale have offered their opinion on who represented the best value.

5. 21st: GRANT MCCANN
Cost: Free. Sold for: Nothing, he retired. McCann was A free transfer recruit picked up by Posh boss Gary Johnson who went on to become one of the great Posh midfielders. Oustanding in his first season (2010-11) at Posh which ended in promotion through the League One play-offs (he scored in all three play-off matches to prove what a man for the big occasion he was) and pretty good when Posh survived in the Championship the following season. A player who made 189 Posh appearances and scored 35 goals didn't cost Posh a penny. Marvellous.
Cost: £8k. Sold for: £2k. Posh made a £6k loss on this dashing striker, but when he joined the club in 1972 they were bottom of Division Four and when he left (for Cambridge, the fool) in 1977 they were an established third tier club. Cozens (pictured holding the trophy) skippered Posh to the Fourth Division title in the 1973-74 season and top scored with 19 goals. He played 155 times for Posh and scored 54 goals. Not bad for an £8k layout.
Cost: £20k. Sold for: Nothing, he retired. Posh paid £20k for a winger from Newcastle United in 1968 and he went on to become the club's record appearance maker with 559. That's value, especially as he played a big part in the club's Fourth Division title winning campaign of 1973-74. Posh have not won a title since. Also scored 128 goals, the second most in the club's Football League history.
Cost: £5k. Sold for: Nothing. A winger converted into an outstanding attacking right-back by legendary Posh manager Chris Turner. Moved to Posh for a modest fee from Mansfield in 1986, but was still a first-team regular when Turner oversaw back-to-back promotions and a place in the second tier of English football for the first time in the club's history in the early 1990s. Made 346 Posh appearances and scored 31 goals before his release in 1993.
