Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony insisted over the weekend new players would be signed and there wouldn’t necessarily be a firesale of existing squad members.
But some players could well leave London Road in search of more game time, or for other reasons. Big bids will be tough for Posh to ignore for a start, especially for players coming to the end of their contracts.
Here we list 10 players who could depart in January and where they might end up. Look out later in the week for a list of players who could be signed.

5. KELL WATTS
The on-loan centre-back is a certainty to return to parent club Newcastle United in January. He arrived injured and has failed to get close to established in the Posh first-team, making just one start in League One so far. He was left out of the last matchday squad altogether. It's been a very disappointing move for a left-sided central defender who came to London Road with a decent reputation. Photo: Joe Dent

6. BEN MENSAH
With Ward now fit, and providing he doesn't leave, and with Nathan Thompson still in the building, Posh have three right-backs so Mensah could well drop into League Two to see some senior action. Posh rate Mensah, but regular injury issues have held his career back. Photo: Joe Dent

7. DAVID AJIBOYE
To be fair Posh signed this right winger from League Two Sutton knowing he would need work to become a League One player. It's not looked like happening for him yet though and he has a few wide players ahead of him in the pecking order. Maybe Sutton would take him back? They've struggled without him this season. 8. JOEL RANDALL
A winger who needs to be put out of his Posh misery. Another to be left out of the last matchday squad so Posh might need to take a financial hit and let their million-pound signing leave. Not sure where he would go though as his old club Exeter have prospered without him, but he needs a fresh start somewhere. Photo: Joe Dent
