'Show respect, but no fear.' Peterborough United's plan to transform their away form at high flying Stockport County

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson wants his players to arrest a terrible run of League One away results by stamping their authority on high fliers Stockport County in a Friday night fixture (7.45pm).

Posh have lost their last five away games in League One, starting with the 3-2 defeat at Birmingham City on September 28. They’ve since lost to Wigan (3-0), Bolton (1-0) Wycombe (3-1), and Northampton (2-1). A win for Posh tomorrow against the team currently in fifth place would move them back into the top 10 ahead of the Saturday games in the division.

Ferguson expects to have summer signing, left-back, Rio Adebisi in his matchday squad for the first time at Edgeley Park. Forward Chris Conn-Clarke will also return if he comes through a Thursday training session as Posh seek a third win in a week following home successes against Crawley and Northampton. A couple of unnamed players have been struggling with illness though.

Centre-back Oscar Wallin is also back after missing the last two matches for a game against a Stockport team who boast League One’s highest scorer, Aston Villa loanee Louie Barry.

"I hope momentum works for us tomorrow as three wins would make it a very good week,” Ferguson said. “We have to change our away form. It’s always difficult on the road in this division and Stockport are a very good team at home, while their fans will whip up a great atmosphere so we will have to manage that.

"I respect all opponents in League One, but I don’t fear any of them. We know, and our opponents know, we are a very difficult side to play against when we get things right and we have to stamp our authority on the game from the start. It won’t be easy as there’s a reason Stockport are where they are in the league. They play in a set way and they have a big squad of players, but we have to make it as difficult as possible for them.

“Barry is a very good player, I knew that before he went to Stockport, but it’s not just about stopping him. There are many good players in their squad.

“But we have to change the dynamic about our away form and the fact we haven’t won successive League One games for a while. Something has to change if we are to get up the table and it’s up to us to make it happen. Momentum is crucial at this time of year as games come thick and fast. We have 11 games in 40-odd days coming up, but players are coming back.

"Rio could start tomorrow, but he wouldn’t play 90 minutes, or we could use him from the bench. He will be involved.”

Posh have not won back-to-back League One games since the second and third games of the season in August at Shrewsbury and Exeter. They are also the only two League One away games won by Posh this season.
