Reading manager proud of his side's basic approach at Peterborough United
Reading manager Leam Richardson was grateful for a hard-fought League One point at Peterborough United on Monday.
"The Royals’ attempted a ‘smash and grab’ win at the Weston Homes Stadium and they almost achieved it. They took the lead from a first-half set-piece and defended it resolutely until Posh substitute Gustav Lindgren equalised 12 minutes from time.

Posh had the chances to win comfortably and were rarely threatened again defensively until Alex Bass made a fine save to thwart Lewis Wing’s very late 25-yarder. That was Reading’s third shot on goal in the match compared to the 19 Posh attempts on goal.
The draw kept the teams level on points. Reading are 10th, Posh are 14th and both are now just three points above the relegation zone!

Richardson told his club media team: “It was a very hard-fought point. We were good at all the basics, the blocks, tackles and headers and that was the most pleasing thing.
“I thought we played miles better against them at home and lost. In the second half we were using our squad and I thought they were all on the pitch doing their best. It was a well-earned point.
“Any point away from home is a very positive point. We had a big journey to Plymouth on Boxing Day and then we are back on the pitch in Peterborough three days later.
“In the first half we were really good and strong on the counter-attack. We could have been better with the ball and we spoke about that at half-time.
“Their fans then got behind them and we dropped 10 yards deeper than we wanted in the second-half. We defended resiliently and nearly caught them at the end, which would have been really pleasing.”
