Possible 15 point deduction for a League One rival of Peterborough United next season, other third tier clubs reportedly up for sale

Sheffield Wednesday could start life in League One next season 15 points behind Peterborough United.

Sky Sports are reporting none of the potential purchasers of the club are prepared to pay the £15 million outgoing owner Dejphon Chansiri is entitled to receive.

Chansiri is Wednesday’s biggest creditor with a reported £60 million of loans to the club outstanding. New owners have to clear all football debts first and foremost and then pay creditors 25% of what they are owed.

Former professional poker player James Bord’s consortium recently pulled out of negotiations after being named the preferred bidder by club administrators. A group led by American businessman David Storch is believed to be in the UK hoping to complete a deal, according to the Sheffield Star, but the Sky Sports report suggests that takeover could be thwarted.

Wednesday are at home to Watford in the Championship on Tuesday night hoping to avoid extending a run of 13 straight defeats and 31 games without a win. 'The Owls’ were relegated in February after winning promotion from League One in the 2023-24 season through the play-offs. They beat Posh in the semi-finals that season after losing the first leg 4-0 at London Road.

Two other potential League One rivals, Wigan Athletic and Bradford City, have reportedly been put up for sale in the last week, according to ‘The Athletic.’
