Posh have excellent bonus payments due from Brentford if they with promotion from the Championship and if Toney reaches goal targets and yesterday the big man struck twice in a 4-1 win at Middlesbrough that movd the Bees up to second, just a point behind leaders Norwich with a game in hand.

Toney, whose transfer to Brentford was valued at £10 million last summer, now has 22 Championship goals in just 27 outings.

Other Posh old boys in the Championship news yesterday (February 6) included full-back Harry Toffolo who was sent off for the second time in his career late in a 1-1 draw at Huddersfield and Josh Knight who conceded an avoidable penalty during Wycombe’s 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest. The Chairboys are now 12 points from safety.

Ex-Posh winger Jon Taylor opened the scoring as Doncaster beat Oxford 3-2 in the battle of the League One in-form teams and goalkeeper Joe Day was back on song as Bristol Rovers returned from Fleetwood with a 0-0 draw.

Ryan Broom moved from Posh to rock-bottom Burton on transfer deadline day and he played an hour of their shock 1-0 home win over Grant McCann’s Hull City before he was replaved by eventual matchwinner Johnny Smith.

In League Two former Posh midfielder Toumani Diagouraga netted in Morecambe’s 2-2 draw at Stevenage.

Marcus Maddison’s highly anticipated Bolton debut was scuppered by a waterlogged pitch at Salford City. He could now make his debut at home to Morecambe on Tuesday (February 9).

Serhat Tasdemir’s debut for Oldham was also delayed by an unfit pitch at Scunthorpe.

In the National League Tyrone Barnett was on the scoresheet for Eastleigh in a 1-1 home draw with Solihull Moore and Simon Rusk’s Stockport County are up to third after a 1-0 home win over Yeovil.
