Posh old boys: Ivan Toney’s the hottest striker in the country, centre-back’s scoring spree continues, a headed assist from little Erhun, defensive blunders from Knight and Santos

Former Posh striker Ivan Toney has now scored 40 goals in his last 57 appearances - the best record of any player in the country over the same period.

Toney struck his 14th goal of the Championship from the penalty spot for Brentford yesterday (December 5) to join Blackburn’s Adam Armstrong at the top of the scoring charts with 14 goals. Brentford drew 2-2 with Blackburn yesterday with Rovers equalising late on after being reduced to 10 men in the first half.

While Posh can’t score from a set-piece these days, the club’s former centre-back Rhys Bennett has netted three goals in five games for League Two promotion chasers Carlisle United. The latest secured a 1-0 win at Bradford City.

Ricardo Santos conceded a penalty as Bolton were thumped 6-3 at home by Port Vale, while little Erhun Oztumer contributed a headed assist for Bristol Rovers in their much-needed 4-2 League One win at AFC Wimbledon.

In the Championship Josh Knight was at fault for one Preston goal, but Wycombe still managed a 2-2 draw at Preston, whil Harry Toffolo was on target as Huddersfield beat QPR 2-0.

George Moncur has broken back into Luton Town’s first team. He scored a fine goal in a 3-1 win over Norwich City in midweek and followed that by striking the post in a 2-0 defeat at Swansea yesterday.
