Posh chief enjoying the cut and thrust of the League One promotion race

Posh co-owner Darragh MacAnthony insists he is enjoying the cut and thrust of a ‘proper’ League One promotion race.

MacAnthony dubbed the 2021-22 campaign ‘Operation Vengeance’ after the club’s promotion hopes last season were destroyed by Covid. League One clubs ultimately voted to decide finishing places on a controversial points per game basis leaving in-form Posh outside the play-off places.

“The promoion race this season is great,” MacAnthony stated. “It’s going to be settled on the field, which is a relief after what went on last season. It’s going down to the wire and there will be none of the self-centred voting that went on last season.

“I was delighted by our 7-0 win last weekend (v Accrington). That’s the sort of scoreline I love and it showed me that my players have the hunger and desire to win promotion.”

Posh are second in League One ahead of today’s (Friday) match at Fleetwood. They are a point behind Hull who travel to Crewe and two points ahead of third-placed Sunderland who host Oxford United.
