That time between the end of one season and the start of another is known as the ‘silly season’ in journalistic circles.

It’s the time when daft transfer stories start to circulate, even more so in these days of social media.

Numerous accounts on Twitter claim be authorities on football transfers. Others pretend to be journalists on august publications, or even ‘The Sun’.

Posh are always featuring on these accounts and rumours are allowed to fester before trigger-happy club co-owner Darragh MacAnthony shoots them down.

It happened this week when Posh were linked with highly-rated Wolves youngster Owen Otasowie.

The PT feels obliged to report all Posh links and this story became the best read on our sports site even after MacAnthony declared there was absolutely no truth in it whatsoever.

The club’s denial of a report yesterday (July 28) that Posh had signed Colorado Rapids midfielder Kellyn Acosta, a USA international, on a three year deal was so rapid the PT didn’t even have time to run the rumour!

Acosta has been on a podcast with Posh marketing guru Jake Baxter when they bonded about a love of sneakers and the player is interested in playing in the Championship according to the London Road employee.

One strange Posh-related transfer rumour did actually turn out to be true as club great Craig Mackail-Smith really has held talks with National North League outfit Kettering Town.

Mackail-Smith was at the Poppies game at the weekend with agent/father-in-law Barry Fry. The 36 year-old was released by Wycombe Wanderers at the end of last season.

Posh have yet to dismiss a report linking them to Orient hotshot Ruel Sotiriou.
