Edwards started and played 45 minutes against Chile in the first of three friendlies the Under 20 side will be playing in Spain this week as part of their preparations for the Under 20 World Cup in Indonesia next summer.

England ran out comfortable 3-0 winners thanks to goals from Manchester City’s (on loan to Stoke) Liam Delap, Milton Keynes’ Daniel Oyegoke and Southampton’s Samuel Edozie.

The inclusion in the line-up of Ian Foster is a good indication that Edwards could be set to have a shot at earning his second piece of silverware in an England shirt, after playing an integral part in the Under 19s lifting the European Championship trophy in July.

Edwards started four of the five games in Slovakia for the side that was managed by Foster. The coach has now moved up to manage the Under 20s and is currently overseeing the preparations for the tournament which England will be looking to win back.

Ukraine are the current holders after their triumph in 2019 but England went into that tournament as defending champions- having beaten Venezuela 1-0 in the 2017 final.

Edwards made 10 caps for the Under 19s before moving up to the Under 20s and has started all nine of Posh’s league matches this season so far.

He will miss Posh’s home match against Port Vale on Saturday (September 24) as England face Morocco on Saturday and Australia on Tuesday (September 27).
