Peterborough United’s promotion rivals made transfer deadline day signings, but Oxford United lost two star players

Peterborough United were one of eight League One clubs not to make a January transfer deadline day signing (January 31).

The 15 other League One clubs made 29 signings between them with Blackpool, Fleetwood and Bolton all making three new signings.

Posh’s League One promotion rivals Sunderland, Coventry, Rotherham and Doncaster all made two signings, although one of Coventry’s was full-back Sam McCullum who was sold by the Sky Blues to Norwich and then loaned straight back! Coventry also signed midfielder Ryan Giles on loan from Wolves. Giles had been on loan at Shrewsbury.

Rotherham signed highly-rated centre-back Curtis Tilt from Blackpool and winger Josh Koroma from Huddersfield, while Sunderland picked up full-back Declan John from Swansea and forward Antoine Semenyo from Bristol City. Gifted winger Aiden McGeady left the Black Cats for Charlton.

Posh were never expecting to make any signings today after taking on Jack Taylor, Reece Brown and Sammie Szmodics earlier in January.

Posh did lose wantaway winger Marcus Maddison to Hull, but promotion rivals Oxford lost two strong players in Tariq Fosu and Shandon Baptiste to Brentford. Posh host Oxford on February 8.

Former Posh player Ryan Bennett has moved to Premier League top four candidates Leicester City on loan from Wolves.
