Peterborough United’s ownership will ‘massively’ reward the club’s loyal fans when the time is right as Darragh MacAnthony insists a special relationship will drive Posh on next season

Peterborough United’s ownership is determined to reward the club’s fans for their tremendous loyalty during a difficult period for the club.

Posh fans were frustrated by the failure of the EFL to insist the League One season was played out to a finish.

The decision to use a points per game average to determine final League One positions cost in-form promotion-seeking Posh the chance to even contest the play-offs.

But following that disappointment Posh fans have bought 2020-21 season tickets in decent numbers and a high percentage of 2019-20 season ticket holders decided to donate cash to the club’s Academy rather than ask for a refund on the five home matches that didn’t get played.

And that’s not all as self-styled Posh ‘El Presidente’ Darragh MacAnthony revealed.

He said: “We are bringing some of the stadium staff back to work next week.

“For a start the toilets haven’t been cleaned since March so there is plenty to be done and we’ve had fans contacting us volunteering to help.

“That’s love that is. No other industry in the world enjoys unconditional support like that. Fans can fall out of love with managers and players, but never with the club.

“And our fans can’t do enough for us. We’ve had fans from out of town calling us wanting to sponsor us in any way they can. They have a few hundred quid and they want to give it to us.

“What happened to us last season has brought the fans and the club closer together.

“The injustice we suffered means we will be more powerful together next season than ever before and trust me it hasn’t gone unnoticed by the owners.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the number of fans who have backed the Academy with the money they lost on their season ticket and when the time is right we will reward our loyal fans in a massive way.”
