Ward took the plaudits with an exceptional finish for his first goal of the season and an assist for Siriki Dembele as Posh made it three wins out of three in home matches in League One this season.

The 25 year-old was happy with his own performance, but also willing to dish out the praise to others.

“It feels like it’s starting to come together for the team,” Ward stated. “This was a tough game and we had to be ready.

“It was good to get off the mark this season after contributing a few assists in previous matches. I said to Jack Taylor about five minutes before I scored that I would make a run in behind the defence and he played a perfect pass.

“Luckily I brought it down well, relaxed and managed to find the net.

“We’ve been working on varying our positions and making runs inside. It keeps teams thinking.

“We had to weather some pressure in the second half and stay strong before getting in on the counter attack for the second goal, but it was a good all round performance.

“Christy Pym has been on fire lately and he made some more great saves in this game, while I’m really enjoying playing with Nathan Thompson down the right. We’ve played with each other a lot now and we get on well, He talks to me throughout the game.

“It’s been a real team effort lately. We’re all working hard to get on the scoresheet and to keep clean sheets.

“We’ve been brilliant at home and we just need to keep that going.”

Posh now head into tough away games at Wigan on Tuesday (October 20) and Grant McCann’s Hull City next Saturday (October 24).
