Peterborough United’s Barry Fry fancied his side for automatic promotion until the coronavirus struck and you can see why looking at the remaining fixtures of their rivals

Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry is convinced Posh would have won automatic promotion from League One if the 2019-20 season hadn’t been interrupted by the coronavirus crisis.

The final Posh fixtures looked favourable compared to their promotion rivals.

Fry said: “We liked our run-in, while Rotherham’s looked very hard. Wycombe had six away games left, Sunderland had five (of eight remaining games) and Doncaster had seven of their final 10 matches away from home.”

Remarkably Oxford United are third courtesy of a goal two minutes from time at Shrewsbury in the last match they played. That goal completed a comeback from 2-0 down against 10 men.

If Oxford hadn’t won that game they would eighth and outside the play-offs!”
