So who will join Simon Davies, Chris Forrester, Andy Clarke. Charlie Lee and even Chris Plummer as the matchwinner at Sixfields?
Let us hope someone does as a lifetime of adulation from Posh fans will follow.
Former Posh assistant manager Kevin ‘Rooster’ Russell said, soon after moving to London Road with Darren Ferguson in January, 2007, he was shocked at how popular he already was among the club’s fans.
Russell only played seven times for Posh on loan from Leicester City and scored just three goals, but crucially one of them was in a 2-1 win at Northampton in a 1990 Division Four match.
“People kept mentioning it to me even though it was almost 20 years ago,” Russell enthused.
Meet the Posh derby heroes (and just look at what it means to score against the Cobblers).....

Posh went on to win promotion under Barry Fry in the 1999-2000 season after a late Jason Lee goal had secured a 1-0 win over Cobblers in January, 2000 just weeks after a record 0-5 home defeat at the hands of Rotherham on Boxing Day. Lee is pictured celebrating with Ritchie Hanlon. Photo: Midlands

Chris Turner took over a Posh side lobbing along in Division Four in January, 1991 and his first home game in charge attracted over 9,500 for the visit of Northampton. Mick Halsall (pictured) won the Division Four game with the only goal just past the hour mark. Suitably inspired Posh went on to win back-to-back promotions. Photo: Midlands

Tom Nichols didn't score many goals for Posh, but he completed the scoring in a 3-0 romp against Cobblers at London Road in 2016. He looks pretty pleased with himself. Photo: Midlands
