Goalkeeper Christy Pym admits Peterborough United can’t just turn up and expect to win matches in League One this season.

The opening fixture at Accrington Stanley proved that last weekend when the underdogs won the game thanks to two outstanding goals against a lacklustre Posh outfit.

But Pym believes a home game against an expected promotion rival in Fleetwood Town tomorrow (September 19, 3pm) offers the perfect opportunity to bounce back to form.

“We can’t just turn up and then win,” Pym stated. “The other team want to win as well so we have to earn the right to play.

“We didn’t do that at Accrington. Our intensity was way off and we got punished by two goals I couldn’t do a lot about.

“All three goals I’ve conceded so far this season have been excellent strikes. It’s always disappointing to concede, but goals like that won’t happen every week.

“I’d love to win the Golden Glove again this season as clean sheets will help us to win promotion.

“We’ll certainly need to be back to our best on Saturday as Fleetwood are expected to be a promotion rival again this season. It’s a tough one though. They are well organised, well coached and very streetwise.

“It’s going to be a strange season because of no crowds and having to change in Portakabins behind an away stand, but it’s the same for all sides. We can’t use that as excuse.

“We’ll be okay though. We’re a very tight-knit group who demand a lot of each other.”

ODDS

One poor performance and result was enough for Sky Bet to knock Posh out a point in their odds for the League One title.
