Peterborough United suffer an injury blow and there are a couple of key League One fixtures on Tuesday night

Peterborough United’s promotion hopes from League One suffered a blow today (March 10) as key defender Nathan Thompson was ruled out for the rest of the month because of injury.

Thompson suffered a tear in his thigh during Saturday’s (March 7) 2-0 win against his old club Portsmouth at the Weston Homes Stadium. The 29 year-old left the action at half-time.

“It is a blow,” Posh boss Darren Ferguson said. “Nathan won’t play again this month. It’s been the story of his season really. He has a run of games, he plays well and then he picks up an injury.

“He injured his other thigh earlier in the season. It’s only a small tear this time, but he has been in very good form so it’s not good news.

“But we have other players who can play in his position. Niall Mason was very good in the second-half against Portsmouth and we have Rhys Bennett who could also play there. Frankie Kent is not too far away from returning either.”

Thompson will miss Saturday’s (March 14) trip to Bolton Wanderers and the home games against Bristol Rovers (March 21) and Blackpool (March 29).

Ferguson is off to watch Bolton Wanderers Burton Albion tonight.

Posh could drop from fourth to seventh tonight if Portsmouth draw at home to Fleetwood and if Sunderland pick up anything from a trip to out-of-form Bristol Rovers.
