Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson is delighted his in-form striker Kwame Poku has won the League One ‘Player-of-the-Month’ prize for September.

Versatile forward Poku scored in three successive games in the month against Lincoln City, Bristol Rovers and Leyton Orient. The 23 year-old is currently League One’s joint top scorer with six goals.

Poku’s rivals for the award were Leyton Orient midfielder Ethan Galbraith, Wigan Athletic centre-back Will Aimson and Birmingham City midfielder Tomoki Iwata.

Ferguson said: “I’m delighted for Kwame. He’s been out standout player this season and for a winger to be the joint-top scorer in the division is a tremendous effort. Kwame has taken on more responsibility this season. He’s become more vocal and more mature. He is a quiet lad, but when he does speak he usually makes good sense.”
