But there have inevitably been signings in Posh history who have been huge disappointments and they are the ones we are remembering here with the help of our readers.
Posh fan and talkSPORT host Adrian Durham, nominated Luke James while others also picked on fairly recent signings Tom Nichols and Jack Baldwin, Others dared to mention the Posh ‘Holy Trinity’ of Craig Mackail-Smith, Aaron Mclean and George Boyd who predictably didn’t match their feats during Darren Ferguson’s first spell as Posh boss when they returned to the club.
Lee Tomlin’s patchy form when he returned last season was mentioned, but it would be Posh heresy to include any of the four superstars.
We have though included a manager who should have done much better.

9.
ERNIE MOSS. Moss was a prolific goalscoring centre forward throughout his career, apart from the 11 months he spent at Posh. His record meant there were few complaints when Posh boss Noel Cantwell paid a club-record £25k to sign Moss from Chesterfield in 1976. Moss scored twice in his second game for Posh in Division Three, but the goals immediately dried up and less than a year after moving to London Road he’d been sold to Mansfield for £20k. Moss was soon back at Chesterfield and moved onto Stockport, Scarborough and Rochdale before retiring after 244 goals in 749 Football League matches.

10.
RICKY MILLER. There had been quite the clamour for quite the time to sign a prolific goalscoring non league striker who had been raised in Peterborough and when he moved from Dover in 2017 the goodwill towards Miller was overwhelming. Sadly he was banned for the first six matches of his first season after an old biting offence came to light and he failed to find the back of the net once before his personal demons returned and he left the club after a mere five-month stay. | Joe Dent/JMP Photo: Midlands

JACK BALDWIN. It wasn't this centre-back's fault that he arrived at Posh burdened by a 'next Alan Hansen' tag. He gave away a last-gasp penalty on his debut and various calamities (red cards, own goals, giving away penalties) were never far away in a Posh career that spanned over 100 games and four years. The former Posh captain earned a terrific move to Sunderland, but they've since sent Baldwin on loan to Salford of League Two. | Joe Dent/JMP Photo: Midlands

12.
PAUL MORAN. Once considered to have a great future this forward spent nine years at Spurs before joining Posh on a free transfer in 1994, but he was constantly injured and made just nine appearances before dropping into non-league with Enfield. He played, badly, against Posh in the FA Cup the following season. Photo: Midlands
