Peterborough United skipper Mark Beevers insists his side are a couple of tweaks away from showing their true colours.

Posh have lost two of their first three League One matches after a dubious penalty call condemned them to a 1-0 defeat at Sunderland on Saturday (September 26).

But Beevers is certainly not panicking ahead of a home match against newly-promoted Swindon Town on Saturday (October 3).

“We’re not far off where we need to be,” Beevers told the Posh media team. “The manager said yesterday (Monday) that we are playing well, but we just need tweak a couple of things. We are inches away from showing what a good side we are. We’ll soon be turning the screw again.

“We played well at Sunderland. One dubious decision affected a good game. We responded well to that setback though as we did when we fell behind to Fleetwood the week before.

“That’s the character we have in the side. There were spells when we looked really good at Sunderland and times when they put us under pressure, but we looked the likeliest to score in my opinion.

“It’s football. The tide will turn soon enough. We have players who will produce at this level. We will soon be back to scoring goals like we did last season.

“Defensively we’ve been solid. The stats say four goals conceded in three games which isn’t great, but we’ve conceded two excellent finishes and a dubious penalty.

“If you’d watched the games you’d know we haven’t been opened up regularly. We haven’t conceded many chances and we’ve played Fleetwood and Sunderland, two sides who will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.

“Conceding goals is frustrating at the time, but when the dust settles you know you couldn’t have done a lot about some of them.

“it will be good to be back at home again on Saturday. We have a good record there. We’ll have to generate our own atmosphere again though against a team who have started the season in decent form.

“They’ve scored a few goals so the’ll be a threat, but we’ll treat them like every other team by looking at their strengths and weaknesses and how our strengths can trouble them.”

Swindon’s former Posh midfielder Michael Doughty quit the club last month for personal reasons.
