A report in the Sun today (January 13) claimed the Bees were leading the chase for a 24 year-old who handed in a transfer request last week.

Ivan Toney apparently recommended Dembele to Brentford describing him as ‘the best player in League One.’ Posh sold Toney to Brentford in a deal worth up to £10 million in the summer.

But Posh director of football Barry Fry says the report is untrue.

Fry said: “We heard a rumour Brentford were interested in Siriki weeks ago so we checked it out and they denied it.

“I dare say Ivan did recommend him, but Brentford have not made contact and we don’t expect them to.

“Our line remains the same. We are not interested in losing our best players in January.”

Dembele delivered an improved display in last night’s 5-1 win over Portsmouth in the Papa John’s Trophy. He scored his first goal since November 7.
