The offer from the Canaries for an 18 year-old ‘number 10’ with three goals in just five starts for Posh would be seen as derisory by London Road officials who rate Clarke as highly as current Premier League star James Maddison when he was a similar age.

Norwich paid then League One club Coventry City a reported £3 million for teenager Maddison in 2016. Thirty months later Maddison moved to Leicester for £22.5 million.

Posh would therefore view the offer for Clarke, who only turned 18 in December, as ‘peanuts.’

It’s understood Norwich offered £300k initially, but more than doubled their offer to £700k plus add ons over the weekend. Posh instantly dismissed both bids for a player they already value in the millions and whose price would only increase further if his current progress continues.

Clarke made his Football League debut at the age of 17 at Hull City earlier this season. He also scored three goals in three group games in this season’s Papa John’s Trophy including a stunning effort at Cambridge United and earned a call-up to a Scotland Under 19 squad.

Clarke’s grandfather is former Posh, Portsmouth and former Northern Ireland star Colin Clarke.

Clarke’s agent is Integral Sports Management whose head of football operations is former Posh player Mark Arber. Arber’s father Bobby works for Norwich as a scout.
