Peterborough United have today (August 3) confirmed the appointment of Mark Robson as assistant manager to first-team boss Darren Ferguson, as predicted by the Peterborough Telegraph last month.

It’s a coaching coup for Posh as Robson worked at London Road for two successful seasons in 2010-11 and 2011-12 before going on to coach Norwich City and Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Since 2016 Robson has been involved with the England youth set up at St George’s Park.

“When Gavin decided to leave Mark was my first choice to replace him,” Ferguson said. “I wasn’t sure we would be able to get him, but he wanted to come back and we are delighted.

“Mark is an outstanding coach.”

Robson added; “It is great to be back. “I have some really good memories of working at the club and there are still quite a few familiar faces including of course the chairman, who I want to thank for granting me this opportunity to come back to a club where we enjoyed success.

“When Darren gave me a call about a month ago we had a discussion and it was something that really appealed to me. It was a no-brainer.”

Former manager Gary Johnson brought Robson to Posh in 2010 and he stayed when Ferguson returned to London Road the following January. He played a big part in a memorable Posh League One promotion campaign and the following season when the club finished 18th in the Championship.

Robson, a former Charlton and West Ham player, left at the end of that season to manage Barnet.
