The 19 year-old has been pushed down the Posh pecking order by the January arrival of new signings Jack Taylor, Reece Brown and Sammie Szmodics.

Barker, a Posh Academy graduate, has made four first-team appearances, three in the EFL Trophy and one as a substitute in an FA Cup tie at Burnley in January.

Wrexham, who are managed by former Posh midfielder Dean Keates, are 19th and battling against relegation. Current Posh boss Darren Ferguson is a former Wrexham player.

Barker said: “I’ve learned loads from Darren Ferguson. He gave me my first professional contract and since I’ve been with him, I’ve tried to kick on as much as I can. I’ve learned so much from him.

“I would say I’m more of a defensive midfielder. I think the strongest point of my game is my range of passing and composure.

“I think I’m ready for men’s football. I’ve had a bit of an experience on loan at Lowestoft, but this will be another step up.

“It’s a brilliant stadium and set-up, all the lads seem a good bunch of boys and I’m looking forward to cracking on now.”

Keates said: “Kyle’s a ball-playing midfielder. We’re quite strong in that position, but he’s a little bit different to what we have got.

“You can see the players we have brought in have had a positive effect on this football club going forward, and I expect the same from Kyle.”
