Cooper has become surplus to requirements as Posh have signed three new midfielders - Reece Brown, Ethan Hamilton and Ryan Broom - this month.

Cooper spent most of last season on loan at Plymouth Argyle, helping them to promotion from League Two, but Posh asked him to fight for a first-team place at the Weston Homes Stadium earlier this summer.

But Cooper, who cost Posh a reported £300k when moving from Crewe in January, 2018 can now leave according to a tweet from Posh co-owner Darragh MacAnthony today.

Posh manager Darren Ferguson prefers more explosive attacking midfielders hence the arrival of Broom today (August 24).

Cooper has started just 16 matches for Posh and he might not be the only one to leave London Road as the new £2.5 million salary cap in League One becomes a factor.

MacAnthony said: ““We are working within the salary cap, but there will be three or four players still with us that will be available to move on as they won’t be in our final squad.

“Thats the way it now works.”
