Posh have signed midfielders Reece Brown and Ethan Hamilton, centre-back Ronnie Edwards and goalkeeper Dan Gyollai in the last month and they’ve been heavily linked to attacking midfielder Ryan Broom this weekend.

But Ferguson insists the return of Robson to the club as assistant manager will be decisive move as Posh seek to escape League One.

Robson was a successful coach at Posh between 2010-12 and has spent the last five years working with some of the top young talent in the country at the FA’s national training centre at St George’s Park. Robson replaced Gavin Strachan who joined Celtic as head coach.

“Mark could be my most important signing,” Ferguson said. “He’s really started to put his mark on some training sessions and he’s very good off the pitch as well. He loves the tactical challenge of using video and data.

“I work well with him and he also brings the added advantage of having worked with the outstanding English young players at different age groups for the last five years. That’s important to us as we are a club who want to develop and play young footballers.

“There’s been a lot of good work with them lately anyway, but Mark will add to that.”
