Peterborough United have two players missing for the visit of Bristol Rovers, but it’s all clear on the Covid front

The League One fixture between Peterborough United and Bristol Rovers tomorrow (January 26, 7pm) has come too soon for Joe Ward.

The Posh wide player has missed the last two League One games after picking up a thigh injury, ironically while setting up a goal for Jonson Clarke-Harris in the 3-0 win over MK Dons on January 16.

Ward is expected to return for Saturday’s trip to improving Shrewsbury Town (January 30).

Teenage centre-back Ronnie Edwards is back training with the first-team squad after a lengthy period of self-isolation, but he will be held back for the EFL Trophy quarter-final at Tranmere Rovers on February 2.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson said: “Joe has been running comfortably. The only thing he hasn’t done yet is kick a ball. He felt a problem in his thigh when he crossed for Jonson to score his early goal against MK Dons, but played on for an hour.

“He won’t play tomorrow, but he will hopefully be back for the Shrewsbury game.

“It’s another tough eight days ahead with two away games at the end of it. Tranmere’s pitch is bad as ours so I will have to be mindful of that when I’m picking the team.”

Idris Kanu, who impressed Ferguson in Saturday’s win at Ipswich Town, is expected to play as a right wing-back again tomorrow.

All the players tested negative for Covid again this morning.
