The deal will officially be ratified tomorrow (September 1). Toney has signed a five year-contract with his new club.

It brings to an end a long-running pursuit by the Bees who tried hard to take the 24 year-old in January.

Toney, who was named the EFL League One Player of the Year and scooped the Golden Boot after netting 24 (26 in all competitions) times last season, has attracted the attention of a host of clubs including Celtic, Rangers and Brighton, but they couldn’t meet the Posh valuation of £10 million.

The deal has been reported elsewhere as £6.5 million plus considerable add-ons, but neither Posh nor Brentford have confirmed the financial details.

It’s a certainty that the fee will break the Posh record fee received of £6 million from Crystal Palace for Dwight Gayle seven years ago.

It’s understood Newcastle have a 30% sell-on clause on any profit. Posh paid ‘The Magpies’ just £350k for Toney in August, 2018 so would scoop close to £3 million if Posh received their desired fee. He scored 49 goals in 94 appearances for Posh.
