Hide AdIt had been thought Szmodics wanted to try and force his way into City’s Championship squad this season, but the new manager at Ashton Gate Dean Holden didn’t give the player any indication that would happen.
Szmodics scored four goals and was credited with three assists in 10 Posh appearances last season.
He moved to City from Colchester on a free transfer in June 2019 after falling out of contract at the League Two club. He chose City ahead of a move to Posh, but made just four appearances for them, and started just one Championship match.

Hide AdPosh beat off opposition from expected League One promotion rivals Sunderland and Portsmouth to land Szmodics. The multi-million pound sale of Ivan Toney to Brentford gave Posh money to spend on squad strengthening.
It’s thought Posh have spent close to £1 million on a new player for the second time this summer following the arrival of striker Jonson Clarke-Harris from Bristol Rovers.
Szmodics will not play in tonight’s (September 8) EFL Trophy game against Burton at the Weston Homes Stadium.
