Peterborough United fans say: ‘Toney is the best striker in the club’s history, but Mark Beevers and Siriki Dembele could easily have been man-of-the-match against petulant Portsmouth’

Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney has been acclaimed as the best striker in the club’s history by Posh fans after yesterday’s (March 7) 2-0 win over League One promotion rivals Portsmouth at the Weston Homes Stadium.

But there was plenty of love for several other Posh players after such a vital win, notably captain Mark Beevers and Toney’s strike partner Siriki Dembele.

Comments were passed to @PTAlanSwann on Twitter.

‘For his all-round game, importance to the side, consistency & contribution Toney is best striker I’ve seen at Posh.

Man-of-the-match Dembele though. He made the first goal with a combination of desire & skill, terrorised Pompey with his pace & was vital to relieving pressure when Pompey were pushing for equaliser.’

‘Dembele man of match, Toney was superb again & looks like he could easily play in a top Championship side. A fantastic game of football. Well played Posh.’

‘Most consistent 90 min performance of the season. Dembele man-of-the-match. Be remiss not to mention the best away team goalkeeping display seen for years!”

‘Dembele was unplayable.’

‘Posh were immense, everyone put a shift in and Ivan Toney is a contender for my all-time favourite Posh player. Brilliant stuff!’

@LewisAyre

‘Toney took so muck stick from the opposition. Dembele unplayable and Beevers dominant at last.’

@Nimrod57

‘Toney - Dembele partnership. Wow. Telepathy at its best. I had too many star men. Beevers, Butler and some of the balls Ward put in - outstanding. But the more I name others, I want to mention Siriki and Ivan too. Superb, disciplined performance. A Championship performance.’

@PaulGC84

‘Beevers had a decent game and of course Dembele caused a lot of problems,’

‘For his work rate and his box-to-box running Ivan Toney is definitely the best striker in Posh history, and to say that with the fantastic strikers we have had is an accolade to the man.’

@mark9697

‘Very disappointed to see Portsmouth resort to such petulant and over-physical tactics. Posh were much the better side and they just couldn’t deal with it. Their keeper was class though and kept the score down!’

@timdavision7

‘Ivan Toney is the best player I’ve seen in a Posh shirt. Outstanding.’
