The 23 year-old has signed a three-year deal after scoring 12 goals in 87 appearances for the Robins following a move from Bristol Rovers in May, 2018. The fee will remain undisclosed, but Broom was just about to start the last year of his Robins contract.

Posh tried and failed to sign Broom last January.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson said: “Ryan is a player that I have been looking at for a long time now. He is a player that I know a fair bit about. He fits exactly how we want to play.

“He has an abundance of energy and scored eight and assisted eight goals from midfield last season. He can also operate as a wing back, although his preferred position is as a 10. He knows the system that we want to play because he operated in the same system at Cheltenham which is helpful.”

Broom’s arrival presumably means Sammie Szmodics won’t be returning to the Weston Homes Stadium this season.

Broom could make his Posh debut in a Carabao Cup tie against Cheltenham at London Road on September 5. He is expected to play in tomorrow evening’s (August 25) friendly at Colchester United.

Broom said: “I spoke with the manager and he told me how he wants to play and to be honest that suits me down to the ground. There is not too much of a difference in how we played at Cheltenham last season. It is funny how the Carabao Cup first round has worked out but it is a tie I am looking forward to.”
