The only chance for Peterborough United fans to watch their favourite team in action this season could be in the League One play-off final at Wembley.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will allow a limited number of fans into football grounds from May 17. The regular League One season ends on May 8 when Posh will hope they have achieved automatic promotion from League One.

Posh chief Darragh MacAnthony was quick to take to Twitter to condemn UK Government logic.

MacAnthony said: “No science backs up widespread transmission at outdoor events like our games & if they take their head out of their SAGE backsides & study the NFL, they will see facts not fiction, but then that doesn’t suit the ‘lockdown lovers agenda.”

Wembley looks set to house 10,000 fans for the League One play-off final which is scheduled for between May 29-31.

Two seasons ago the League One play-off semi-finals took place between May 11 & 17 after the regular season ended on May 4.

Local organised football for adults and children will be allowed from March 29 when tennis, golf courses, basketball courts and outdoor swimming pools, can reopen.
