Peterborough United boss delighted with Kanu’s display at Portman Road
Kanu had the unenviable task of keeping dashing former Posh player Gwion Edwards quiet, but he did just that as Posh sneaked a 1-0 win at Portman Road.
Ferguson said: “I had a decision to make before the game in terms of Idris Kanu at right-wing back because by his own admission he was disappointed with his performance (against Charlton) on Tuesday night, but he was excellent against a dangerous player in Gwion Edwards. They had a really good battle,
“He gives us good balance, I could have played Harrison Burrows, who came on against Charlton in that position and did well, but he is not a right-sided wing back and as a manager I have to think about the shape and balance of the team.
“You have to run up and down the pitch as a wing-back and Idris did it really well. I’d still like him to get more crosses in, but he’s developing nicely.”
First choice right wing-back Joe Ward is expected to miss the home match with Bristol Rovers on Tuesday (January 26), but could return for next Saturday’s (January 30) trip to Shrewsbury,
