Peterborough United boss delighted with Kanu’s display at Portman Road

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson singled out inexperienced right wing-back Idris Kanu for praise following yesterday’s (January 23) 1-0 win at Ipswich Town.

Kanu had the unenviable task of keeping dashing former Posh player Gwion Edwards quiet, but he did just that as Posh sneaked a 1-0 win at Portman Road.

Ferguson said: “I had a decision to make before the game in terms of Idris Kanu at right-wing back because by his own admission he was disappointed with his performance (against Charlton) on Tuesday night, but he was excellent against a dangerous player in Gwion Edwards. They had a really good battle,

“He gives us good balance, I could have played Harrison Burrows, who came on against Charlton in that position and did well, but he is not a right-sided wing back and as a manager I have to think about the shape and balance of the team.

“You have to run up and down the pitch as a wing-back and Idris did it really well. I’d still like him to get more crosses in, but he’s developing nicely.”

First choice right wing-back Joe Ward is expected to miss the home match with Bristol Rovers on Tuesday (January 26), but could return for next Saturday’s (January 30) trip to Shrewsbury,
