Peterborough United are set to go with Mo in the big League One game at Fleetwood Town, but there could also be a formation tweak

Peterborough United seem set to bank on Mo Eisa returning to goalscoring form as they plan for life without star striker Ivan Toney for the rest of February.

Eisa is expected to partner in-form livewire Siriki Dembele in Saturday’s important League One promotion battle at Fleetwood Town (February 15, 3pm), a game that could be affected by the arrival of ‘Storm Dennis’ on the Lancashire coast.

Toney is suspended on Saturday and also from the only other Posh fixture this month, at Burton Albion on February 29.

Sammie Szmodics is expected to be fit after suffering a dead leg in Tuesday’s 4-0 win over Southend, while defender Nathan Thompson is available after serving a one-match ban in that game.

“A positive from Tuesday aside from the result was how sharp Mo looked when he went on as a substitute,” Ferguson said. “Mo has been freshened up mentally and physically by his time out of the side and that could work in our favour now. He received a great reception from the fans as well.

“If I do go with Mo it’s a great opportunity for him to get back into form. He’s joining a side in form and full of confidence and if we create chances for him he will score. He’s shown he’s also capable of making chances for himself so he is a good option for us.

“We have to forget about Ivan for two games. Almost all of what we do at Fleetwood will be the same as if he was playing, but there will be one or two tweaks of course as we can’t replace the physicality he gives us.

“I also have Ricky-Jade Jones available to replace Ivan and I could play with three central midfielders and leave Dembele and Szmodics up front on their own so I have good options.

“The bottom line is winning the game against a rival. We want to round off an excellent week with a third win and then we can rest up for a fortnight and get ready for the last 11 games.

“Obviously teams will catch us up or get closer to us while we are not playing, but we can only control what we do in a big game against a very good side.

“Fleetwood is a tricky place to go in any circumstances, but they are also in very good form. They’ve won the last three and not lost in six.

“Both teams will try and play, but the strong wind will play a part if it does come. Both teams will just have to get on with it.”

Eisa has scored 15 goals for Posh since moving to London Road from Bristol City for a club record £1.3 million in the summer, but he hasn’t netted since the 2-2 draw at Portsmouth on December 7.

Versatile Idris Kanu could return to the squad on Saturday after recovering from an eye injury.

Fleetwood will be without striker Ched Evans who is suspended.
