Perfect Sunday for Peterborough United Women who stretched their lead at the top of the table
It was a perfect Sunday for Peterborough United Women as they took a firm grip on the National Midlands Division One title race.
Not only did Posh beat rivals Leafield Athletic 2-0 at PIMS Park to make it eight wins in eight matches, the team they expected to make the biggest challenge to their dominance, Boldmere St Michaels, were beaten 1-0 at Sheffield. Posh are now five points clear at the top with Barnsley now in in second place.

And the big games for Posh continue next weekend as they travel to South Yorkshire to face a Barnsley side who have won six and lost just one of their eight games so far.
Posh boss Jake Poole reckoned Solihull-based Leafield Athletic would present the toughest challenge for his side so far this season and you could see the logic behind his warning.

Not that Posh ever looked like surrendering their perfect record. Wasteful finishing cost them until Kira Rai opened the scoring from close range five minutes before the break. Hayley James wrapped up the win with a similar finish midway through the second-half. James had played a big part in the Rai goal - her second in two games – with Jess Rousseau creating the second goal.
The visitors rallied in the final stages. They hit the woodwork and forced a decent save from Posh ‘keeper Neive Corry, but the final scoreline was a fair one.
Posh: Corry, Connor (sub Connor 62 mina), Hines, Driscoll-King, Rousseau, Perkins, Reynolds (sub Clarke 74 mina), Stanford (sub Lawlor 88 mina), Pitt, Rai (sub Meli 86 mina), James. Unused subs: Sharpe, Brown, Mears.
