A trip to Newport County on Saturday won’t get the Posh pulses racing. but there’s still a chance it could break into my list of favourite FA Cup ties involving my favourite team.
The proviso for inclusion is I must have been at the game. My 12-tie chart is in reverse order of favouritism. Let me know your favourite.

5. Posh 1, Leeds 4. 4th round, 1974
Leeds were the best team in the country under Don Revie and were 4-0 up at the break against a team who would go on to win the Fourth Division title. Peter Lorimer had a hand in all four goals, scoring once and setting up Joe Jordan (twice) and Terry Yorath. Cozens scored the Posh consolation goal in front of a capacity 28,000 crowd. There was no need for Leeds fans to dismantle the Moy’s End tea bar and throw it on the pitch though! Jordan is pictured scoring for Leeds at London Road. Photo: PA

6. Posh 1, Spurs 1, third round, 1993
Posh came within five minutes of toppling top-flight Spurs at London Road when Jason Dozzell equalised for the Londoners. Jason Brissett (pictured after the game) had shot Posh ahead a few minutes earlier. Spurs won the replay at White Hart Lane on penalties against a Posh team who would go on to be relegated from the second tier. It finished 1-1 after extra time with Ken Charlery equalising for Posh. Sixteen year-old striker Andy Furnell was only player to fail to score in the shootout. Photo: David Lowndes

7. Posh 2, Brighton 2. 5th round, 1986.
The famous game on the snow covered pitch which attracted the biggest Posh crowd for five years (15,812) and generated record receipts. John Wile’s team weren’t very good, but they had somehow got to the fifth round and they should have won this game. Visiting goalkeeper Perry Digweed should have been sent off early in a game that burst into life in the final 20 minutes. Twice Posh led through cup specialist Greig Shepherd and Errington Kelly, but Dean Saunders and an unfortunate own goal from Alan Paris saved Brighton who won the replay 1-0 with a Saunders goal. Kelly’s goal famously travelled into the net after hitting an ice divot and shooting six feet up in the air! Photo: PT

8. Notts County 0, Posh 1, fourth round 1981
County were top of the old Division Two and on course for the title when Fourth Division Posh pitched up at Meadow Lane. Robbie Cooke (pictured) scored the only goal of the game in front a packed visiting terrace in the second-half for a richly-entertaining Posh side managed by Peter Morris. Posh went out to Manchester City in the fifth round to a single goal from Tommy Booth in front of 27,780 fans. Photo: David Lowndes
