LIVE BLOG: Posh v Sunderland

Last updated: Monday, 05 April, 2021, 17:00

  • 1-1 FT
  • Dembele gives Posh the lead off the bench after great work from Thompson
  • McGeady equalises straight from free-kick
  • Beevers diverts against own post late on
  • Posh stay second, now three points behind Hull

It was not a classic but you can’t help but feel slightly deflated having taken the lead. Posh’s changes put them well on top they created a couple of chances to win the game. The disappointment is that it is a silly foul to give away on the edge of the box from Taylor, even if Pym doesn’t exactly cover himself in glory from the kick itself. Posh then found themselves hanging on, despite not creating anything all half, and Beevers turned onto his own post, nearly giving Sunderland all three points. A draw is probably fair all things considered.

Right after the final whistle, Pym collapses holding his back. That is a real worry going forward.

Corner from McGeady over everyone.

Cross cut-out by Taylor. Mason cuaght up-field. Corner.

Head tennis in the Posh half but Sunderland clear and break. Taylor has to step in and cut the ball out wide of the left.

Mason is left to defend against three players on the right. O’Brien brings the ball forward and whips in a low cross, Beevers throws himself at the ball and makes connection, diverting it onto his own post. So close. Pym still doesn’t look capable of diving.

Dembele penalised for a high foot. Sunderland can come again.

The goal has completely turned this game on its head. Sunderland are now pouring on and Pym is still holding his side. If I was Sunderland, I’d be shooting on sight. The chance to get Gyollai on now gone.
