Joel Randall has completed his move from Peterborough United to Bolton Wanderers.

‘The Trotters' have paid a ‘substantial undisclosed fee’ for Randall who has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with his new club.

Bolton bid up to £1.5 million for Randall in the summer, but Posh rejected that offer and instead gave the player an improved contract. That didn’t stop Randall falling out with manager Darren Ferguson earlier this season. An apology brought him back into the fold, but he then lost his place in the starting line-up over Christmas after some lacklustre displays.

Posh bought Randall from Exeter City for £1 million in August 21, but for two years it seemed a big waste of money before he caught fire last season in a number 10 role. He scored 10 League One goals – 12 in all competitions – and played a full part in an excellent season which ended with a play-off semi-final defeat.

Randall hasn’t hit those heights this season – he has still scored seven goals in all competitions – and Ferguson told chairman Darragh MacAnthony to sell him if acceptable bids arrived in January.

MacAnthony has said Posh will not lose out financially on Randall. Posh have paid Exeter a total of £1.2 million for the player which includes bonus payments for appearances and goals.

It’s understood Bolton. who are 10th in League One, have paid less than the £1.5 million they reportedly bid for the 25 year-old in the summer.

More to come later on Thursday.
