Injury boosts for Peterborough United ahead of busy festive programme

Peterborough United have received a pre-Christmas boost on the injury front.

Central defender Tom O’Connor, winger Cian Hayes and full-back Jacob Mendy are all fit and available for Saturday’s League One trip to Port Vale (3pm kick off).

O’Connor, who had formed a strong central defensive partnership with Tom Lees, has missed the last three Posh matches, including two League One games which were both won, with a calf complaint. David Okagbue has filled in admirably, although he did gift Northampton Town a goal last weekend.

Hayes has not played since the 1-0 League One win at Plymouth Argyle on September 20 because of a knee injury. He is expected to suit the preferred playing style of Posh boss Luke Williams as wingers and natural width are key.

Mendy, like O’Connor, is on loan from Wrexham, has not played since the 2-1 defeat at Bolton Wanderers on October 4 because of a groin problem. He is expected to act as understudy to left-back Harley Mills.

"Tom, Jacob and Harley have all been training and are available for Saturday,” Williams said. “It’s a boost, not just for Saturday, but ahead of a very busy schedule. It will be the fittest squad we’ve had for a while and the timing is perfect.”
