Posh hailed Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Charlton Athletic at the Weston Homes Stadium as the best of the season, but it was a bruising battle which could well have taken plenty out of his players.

Midfielder Reece Brown and teenage wing-back Harrison Burrows both impressed as substitutes against Charlton and they could well start at Portman Road.

The formidable front three of Jonson Clarke-Harris, Siriki Dembele and Sammie Szmodics will all start.

Wing-back Joe Ward (injured) and teenage centre-back Ronnie Edwards (self-isolating) are the only two confirmed absentees.

“I have good options should I decide to freshen things up,” Ferguson said. “I have to be mindful of the number of games coming up.

“Ipswich will be fresh. They didn’t play midweek, they have signed new players and they have good players back from injury like Gwion Edwards who we of course know very well.

“I will again ask the players to give me full pace for an hour in the knowledge I can use five substitutes. We will have good strength on the bench.”

Posh now have midweek fixtures scheduled on every Tuesday until the middle of March.

Posh host Bristol Rovers in a League One game next Tuesday (January 26, 7pm) and will play an EFL Trophy quarter-final the following Tuesday (February 2).

The draw for the Trophy quarter-finals is live on Quest TV’s Football League show at around 9.45pm tomorrow (Saturday).
